Our Philosophy

The NCM's exhibitions and programs challenge a child to
Kreate, Investigate, Discover and Solve (K.I.D.S.).
The K.I.D.S. approach to learning applies hands-on activities as away for children to naturally use their curiosity and creativity.

  • Kreate: To nurture a child's imaginative expression.
  • Investigate: To provide avenues for a child to explore themselves and the world through either self-guided or directed activities.
  • Discover: To give a helping hand to a child in developing a love for the quest.
  • Solve: To assist a child in developing life's problem solving tools.
At the centre of the the K.I.D.S. approach to understanding is Art Based Integrated Learning (ABIL) where art concepts and techniques are the vehicles used for a child to explore themselves and the surrounding world. Both the Museum's exhibitions and programs use the Ontario curriculum as a starting point and the cross-curricular connections of art concepts, techniques and tools not only help children gain fundamental skills and competence in art but also assists them with understanding the concepts, techniques and tools of the other disciplines being explored.
